Four Things Doctor Who Has Taught Me

Sometimes You Lose People, and That’s Okay

The Doctor loses a lot. When you’re a Time Lord who’s lived for over two thousand years and all your closest friends are humans with a hundred year life span at best, that’s to be expected. Oftentimes throughout the course of the show this has deeply affected the Doctor. Sometimes he closes himself off, isolates himself, or tries to pretend it doesn’t hurt to lose people. But these moments never last forever. Eventually he finds a new companion, or a new world to save, or a new problem to solve, and that, to me, is something worth learning. We all lose people. We as humans are surrounded by loss. That’s a terrible thing to accept. But we must accept it, and we must not let that keep us from living.
